FASTNACHT1-g.JPGCarneval 1941 at Repparfjord494 viewsIt is a bit strange that even carneval parades were not really welcome by the Nazi's in germany this unit did their own far far away from home.Oct 24, 2014

Fische.JPGfishery harbour574 viewsI think this picture belonged to a Hammerfest/Honingsvag/Repparfjord photo series. It must be taken when MG-Bataillon 13 already had the Edelweiss badges of the mountain troops but before my neighbour visited the technical inspector school in summer 1942 in germany.Jul 29, 2014

Katzen.JPGButchering cats504 viewsI don't know where and when. But there are no Edelweiss badges so MG-Bataillon 13 was not already moved to the mountain troops. I don't know why they are butchering cats. At this time of the war their wasn't hunger. Accidently shoot them while on guard? Trying to hunt and shot cats instead hares? I saw a similiar picture taken in africa, but showing an antelope. From the africa picture i know that the person was drafted before finishing his apprentice as a butcher and he had to prove his knowledge in front of a comitee to do his journeyman's examinationJul 29, 2014

Lokken-Lager.JPG2. MG-Bataillon13 at Lökken364 viewsThe back of the photo reads Lökken. Since i have a photo of the Folketshus of Lökken i think these photos belong together. Watching this photo i think doing these ornaments needed some time. So i guess it wasn't just a short visit, but rather that the unit was placed their for a while. Anyone knows more?

Saarland.JPGMy neighbour when at MG-Bataillon2274 views1937/1938 the MG-Bataillon2 was in the garnison at Wetzlar where my neighbour was living. It was moved to the Saarland near the french border in 1939. You can see the Saarland car signs and the tactical sign of the MG-Bataillon 2 on this picture.
My neighbour was in 3. MG-Btln2, his best friend in 2. MG-Btln2. Third was used as the core of the new build MG-Bataillon 13, while the second stayed in MG-Btln2.
MG-Btln 13 was as much north as Honningsvag.
MG-Btln 2 fought in Africa.
My mother said that she was confused when the friends meet and talked. She never understood how they could be in the same unit. It was just that they were in same unit before war.
Most pictures show my neighbour with a black overall. He was staff/technical repair as a Unteroffizier in 1938.Jul 30, 2013

BMW.JPGPortait of my neighbour462 viewsThink this photo was done when MG-Bataillon 13 was moved away from the french border to be re-organized for Weserübung at the city of Magdeburg. Normal plans were to do a quick advance from Korsör to Kopenhagen and stay there. Only the heavy losses with Blücher and other ships brought the MG-Bataillon to Norway as a quick and close (Denmark) replacement.Jul 30, 2013

Zugfahrt.JPGAdvance following the railroad465 viewsBack reads: 'Zugfahrt' nach Andalnes
'Train travel' to Andalnes. A movie shows that the only street bridge in a valley was destroyed. So the cars had to drive on the railroad tracks. Jul 30, 2013
