MS Black Watch ble bygget i 1939 for Fred Olsen Lines, og ment for passasjertrafikk mellom Kristiansand, Newcaste og Oslo.

Det ble etter okkupasjonen av Norge overtatt av tyskerne, og i 1943 tatt i tjenese som hovedkvarter for Eduard Dietl. Senere som depotskip og rekreasjonsskip for tyske ubåtpersonell.

4. mai 1945 gjorde RAF et angrep på skipet. Skipet sank utenfor Harstad, sammen med U-711 som da lå ved siden av henne.
